Breakfast in a Brown Paper Bag
Start with a luncheon sized brown paper bag. Cut one strip of bacon in half and lay the two pieces in the bottom. Crack open one egg and carefully place it directly into the bag on top of the bacon. Close the bag by folding over the top a couple of times. Insert a sharp pointed stick through the fold and have about 3 inches below the stick and above the food. Hold the bag over hot coals in your campfire; keep the bag high enough that it doesn't catch on fire (at least 5"). It usually cooks in about 8 to 10 minutes, so check at that time by removing the bag from the heat using an oven mitt, fold open to check that the egg has cooked through. If not done, refold paper bag and hold over hot coals for an additional 2 to 3 minutes and check again. When done, tear the top off the bag or fold it down, grab a fork and eat right out of the bag. The bag will be greasy, so don't set it on your pants leg.
Variations:
Add 2 pieces of bacon or 2 eggs.
Add a handful of frozen hash browns (thawed) or diced fresh potatoes on top of the bacon.
Add salt and pepper, or spices of choice.
Foil Breakfast
Frozen Hash brown potatoes (thawed)
Eggs
Sausage (links or patties)
Salt, pepper or spices of choice
Aluminum foil
This is a great meal to get your camping party motivated in the morning, as each person gets to custom make their own.
Place potatoes, scrambled eggs (uncooked), sausage and spices in aluminum foil. Wrap securely. Place on coals in your campfire for approximately 15 minutes. Turn and rotate as needed, until cooked through.
Hot Dog Delight
Place a hot dog on a hot dog fork or one of your homemade wood sticks, and wrap a slice of bacon around it. Hold the bacon in place with a toothpick. Broil over hot coals in your campfire, being careful to hold it high enough over your coals, so it won't burn. When the hot dog and bacon are cooked through, remove the toothpick and enjoy right off the stick or place it in a bun with your favorite condiments. Fun to make and eat!!
Orange Burger
Cut an orange in half. Scoop out the fleshy insides of the orange and save to eat with your meal, or a snack for later. Add a hamburger meatball seasoned with onion, salt and pepper. Place the orange halves back together; put on a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil, fold the foil securely around the orange and place in the hot coals of your campfire. Cook until done, removing with tongs or heatproof mitts, eat right out of the foil.
Onion Burger
Cut a large onion in half. Scoop out the inside layers of the onion and save to use for another meal. Add a hamburger meatball seasoned with salt and pepper. Place the onion halves back together; put on a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil, fold the foil securely around the onion and place in the hot coals of your campfire. Cook until done, removing with tongs or heatproof mitts, eat right out of the foil.
Campfire Shish Cub Bobs
Place 1 1/2 inch cubes of meat, onion, green pepper, tomato and any other desired vegetable onto a metal skewer. Place on grill grate over hot coals of your campfire. Turn as needed and cook until meat and vegetables are done.

Instant Pudding
Open your box of instant pudding and place in a mixing bowl or kettle. You can use powdered milk for this recipe and mix with water, if you don't want to bring fresh milk. Beat with a hand rotary beater or wire whisk until well blended, 1 to 2 minutes. Place in a cooler, if you prefer it to thicken, or eat immediately.
You can also use a 1 quart container with a leak proof cover for the shaker method of mixing. Place all of your ingredients in your container, cover tightly; shake vigorously at least 45 seconds. Yummy treat!!
Dutch Oven Cobbler
You will need the following ingredients:
- Can of pie filling, of your choice or canned peaches or fruit cocktail
- Can of crushed pineapple
- Boxed cake mix
- A few tablespoons of butter, sliced
- Brown Sugar and Cinnamon, if you want
Line your Dutch oven with heavy duty aluminum foil. Dump in the above ingredients in the order given. You don't need to mix them together, the butter and brown sugar will melt from above and the juices from the fruit or pie filling will add moisture to your dry cake mix. Place the cover securely on your Dutch oven and set in the hot coals of your campfire. You can set hot wood ashes or coals on the cover. Cook for about 20 minutes and then rotate the Dutch oven a half turn for more even cooking and bake an additional 20 minutes. Cook until done.
Remember that the Dutch oven will get very hot, so use caution to avoid getting burned.
Apple Cobbler (Dump Cake)
Here is another similar version Cobbler to try. Place six diced apples in the bottom of a Dutch oven or kettle. Simmer slightly. Sprinkle dry cake mix over the top. Dot with butter and sugar-cinnamon mixture (optional). Cook 25 to 45 minutes depending on campfire heat.

Campfire Cake in an Orange
Mix one cake mix as directed on package. Slice the top off of 1 - 12 oranges 1/3 down from the top. Spoon the fruit out of the bottom 2/3 leaving an empty shell (save the fleshy orange sections for a snack). Fill the hollow shell 1/2 full with cake batter. Place the top back on the orange. Wrap in heavy duty aluminum foil and place on hot coals in your campfire. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes. This can also be made in a Dutch oven or a reflector oven.
For a variety, try gingerbread in a grapefuit shell!!

Stick Bread
Lightly butter one end of a clean stick. Wrap a small amount of bread dough around the buttered end. Hold the dough over hot coals in your campfire until golden brown. Remove and eat.
Campfire Hobo Popcorn
On a 6" x 6" piece of heavy duty aluminum foil, place 1 teaspoon of cooking oil and 1 tablespoon unpopped popcorn. Bring corners together to form a pouch, allowing room for the popcorn to pop. Tie the pouch to a long stick with a thin wire. Hold the pouch over hot coals, shaking it constantly until all the corn has popped. Season with salt and butter, if desired.
